TRACK SPRINT

Trackcross, TrackCross, Circuitcross, Track Sprint – you may have heard someone use any of these terms.
If you are an SCCA member, you know Trackcross as a Track Sprint.  If you have run much at Summit Point, you probably have participated in - or heard about - one of Jon Felton's TrackCross events.  Jon describes his Trackcross events as "autocross on a race track."  It's just like the Track Sprint portion of an SCCA Time Trial event but with cars running solo at 30-60 second intervals. From 2026 forward, we're using the term Track Sprint.

Track Sprint

A Track Sprint is an element of an SCCA time trial event, with cars running solo at 30 - 60 second intervals.  The driver has the track to themself to turn their fastest lap.  Each driver runs the track segment 4-5 times in each direction, with their final score being the combined times of their fastest lap in each direction.

So, what exactly do we do at our event?

We're running a Track Sprint event.

  • Drivers run a section of the Shenandoah Circuit against the clock. [See the green section of the track map in the right sidebar.]

  • Each driver runs the course 4-5 times clockwise in the morning and 4-5 times counterclockwise in the afternoon.

  • A driver's score is their combined best (lowest) time for their clockwise and counterclockwise runs.

  • Drivers classify their cars using the following guidelines: - Class Your Car.

DETERMINING THE WINNERS

  • Drivers in each class earn points, up to five drivers deep.

  • Each class has a winner - the lowest combined morning and afternoon total time.

  • There is also an overall event Service Team winner - based on the total number of points earned by its team members across all classes. [See the car classes here: Top Dog Championship Car Classes.

  • This winning team has its Service name inscribed on the Top Dog Trophy.

SKIDPAD

If you have never driven on a skidpad, this is a must!  There is no better way to learn car control and understand the limits of traction on wet pavement.

  • Use your own car or our Crown Vic.

  • Sign up at registration or when you check in the morning.

  • The skidpad will be open all day.
