Yesterday was our 8th day on the road, with just over 2,400 miles covered since we departed our home American Legion Post 291 in Newport Harbor, California.
The trip thus far has been nothing short of amazing. The scenery, the people, the conversations with veterans, and the people just interested in the story behind the Corvette are simply wonderful.
If you live on one of America's coasts, I highly recommend a trip through America's heartland.
I met a family at the California/Oregon border with their teenage children. They had just completed visiting all of the lower 48 states. The kids were thrilled.
Every American Legion post I visit delivers veterans dedicated to supporting their community. It's heartwarming to see veterans still giving back to the country they served. It's such an honor to meet them.
Yesterday's goal was to visit Mt. Rushmore, and it did not disappoint. The monument was filled with people from all nationalities. I must have heard a dozen different languages.
Those faces, carved in stone, remind us of the price Americans paid to earn our freedom and maintain the integrity of our country.
Rally4Vets/DVEN is proud to be a partner in the Vet The Vote coalition that has recruited more than 168,000 veterans to serve as election poll workers.

Our Day 9 objective is Sioux City, Iowa, with an interim stop at the American Legion in Gordon, Nebraska. See you tomorrow!
